There tends to be a misconception about Yoga, where it doesn't feel 'hard' enough to be considered a workout. How do you feel about that mindset? Yoga is about listening to your body and FINDING THE WORK within each pose. Every single part of your body should be working to create a pose, and when you have mastered that, well - guess what? There is a more advanced version you can work towards! Yoga not only creates balance in the body, but also... a better understanding of how your body works. It not only challenges you physically, but mentally as well. When you start practicing by really listening to each cue your teacher instructs you to do and really start to understand the small, smart work that needs to happen... you will leave your classes sweat[y]! [In addition], like anything in life, to really feel and see a difference in yourself and your body, constant practice is key. 

What made you want to become a yoga instructor? When I started to practice, there were so many teachers that left me inspired after class. They left me with many thoughts and new ways of looking at things through their teachings. I couldn't help but wonder how good it would feel to leave students of my own with that same feeling. My favourite part about teaching is [developing a] relationship with each student. Listening to their struggles on the mat and helping them overcome their obstacles. Seeing someone leave my class with a smile on their face is all I need to feel rewarded as a teacher; knowing my students are leaving feeling more relaxed and relieved from our [daily] stresses in life. 

How do you stay motivated on days when your energy is or you're just not feeling it? We all have those days where we can't imagine ourselves getting out of bed, let alone onto a yoga mat! Honestly, the one thing that motivates me is knowing that when I am on my mat, and starting a class, I will feel so much better. Even if I am having the worst day, if I force myself to get to class and give it my all, I will feel so much better just for showing up. For me, yoga has been my form of expressing myself creatively, [crafting] new flows, and trying new things on my mat... this really [helps] me push myself... just to show up. 

How do you want your clients to feel when they leave your classes? When clients leave my YogaFlow class, I want them to feel light and inspired. I try to be really [unique] with my flows and choice of music, so I definitely hope that is what clients walk away with! YogaFlow should have [everyone] leaving the room more relaxed in both [their] mind and body. When I am teaching a YogaStrength class, I definitely want to challenge each [client] to [reach] their fullest potential. Everyone should leave feeling warm and inspired from the new work they discover in class. YogaStrength classes are a great way to show clients how to properly perform a pose, and give them the tools to better their physical practice.

What do you feel is your greatest strength as an instructor? Patience. Patience is key to teaching anything. My strength as an instructor, is giving each student the most attention I possibly can, so that they can leave feeling like they've received some useful feedback. The worst thing, especially for new clients, is to leave feeling as though they have been ignored. You want to know how to improve your practice, how to do things correctly to avoid injury. As a teacher, you need to be positive and bring that energy to the studio. Whatever you put into your class, is what clients will take out, and that should always be uplifting and positive!
