Teacher Feature: Mikala

Try out class with one of our newest barre instructors, Mikala! From a very young age, Mikala has had a passion for movement, and has toured around the world performing with the Norwegian Cruise Line. She currently holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology and is studying Holistic Nutrition. With a history in teaching dance, fitness, Zumba, aquafit, and personal training, she has found her calling in helping others reach their health and wellness goals, and brings a positive and motivating presence to both her yoga and barre classes! What made you decide you wanted to teach at Barreworks?I love barre workouts, and I’ve always had the most fun taking classes at Barreworks! I have several years of teaching experience and I’ve always wanted to work at a place with such a great community and such a unique workout method! It’s always fun, always has great music, and it’s always just the right amount of burn!

What do you love most about teaching? I love to help people reach their fitness goals! If I can get someone excited about getting healthy and living their best life…that is the most rewarding thing.

What keeps you motivated/feeling positive on days when your body feels tired and your energy is low? I remind myself how much better I’ll feel after a workout!

How do you want your students to feel when they leave your classes? How do you help them achieve that? I want them to feel like they’ve just had the best workout and are motivated for more! I love to keep positive vibes in my classes. I strive to keep a contagious energy with a smile on my face throughout.

What would you say is your greatest strength as an instructor/how will this positively impact your students? I would say it’s my energy that I bring to the class. As a yoga instructor, I’ve always been told I have the best “yoga voice”. As a barre instructor, I amp it up so my students can feed off that energy and feel pumped for a good workout.

What were your favourite moments of the Barre Certified by Barreworks program? I loved learning the Barreworks method, and learning new and unique moves along the way. Seeing the improvements from start to finish in myself and fellow instructors was such an awesome feeling! 

What would you say to people trying Barreworks for the first time? I would tell them to just have fun with it and they’re about to have an awesome killer workout! We are here to guide you through your workout step by step, with modifications for all levels, and to motivate you the whole way through!
